Volume & contour

Facial fat transfer

A procedure using a patient’s own fat to address selected areas of facial volume.

Overview

A considered, individual plan

Fat is collected from another area, prepared, and placed in selected facial regions. Some transferred volume does not remain, so the degree and stability of change vary and additional treatment may sometimes be discussed.

Candidacy overview

Who may consider it

  • Adults with selected volume or contour concerns
  • People with a suitable donor area
  • Those who accept variable fat retention and possible asymmetry
  • People in stable health with realistic goals

Consultation

  3. 03Review swelling, bruising, contour irregularity, and uncommon complications
  4. 04Agree on photography, consent, and follow-up

Recovery

A general timeline

This is an orientation, not a personal recovery plan. Your surgical team’s instructions take priority.

01

First week

Swelling and bruising can affect both the face and donor area.

02

2–4 weeks

Visible swelling usually reduces, but early volume is not the final result.

03

1–3 months

Transferred volume continues to settle.

04

Several months

The more stable result can be assessed; individual retention varies.

Safety

Potential risks and complications

This is not a complete risk list. Your individual risks, alternatives, and the option of no treatment are discussed in consultation.

  • Bleeding, infection, scarring, and anaesthesia-related complications
  • Contour irregularity, asymmetry, lumps, or unpredictable fat retention
  • Problems at the donor area or need for further treatment
  • Rare but serious blood-vessel complications that require urgent assessment

Photography & privacy

Clinical photographs are part of careful planning.

Standardized photographs may be recommended before and after treatment for clinical documentation and discussion. Any separate use for education or publication requires explicit consent. Consent can be withheld without affecting care; ask the clinic how images are stored, protected, and withdrawn from optional use.
