Body

When planning treatment for the body, plastic surgeon Tiia Pihlamaa assesses the skin, the tissue beneath the skin, and any muscle separation, as well as your scars and functional situation; on that basis the best treatment method is chosen.

Overview

A considered, individual plan

A surgical assessment of body contour may be relevant after weight change, pregnancy, or previous surgery. Scope and safe implementation are always determined personally.

Procedures and assessment

What the category may include

Abdominal contour surgery

Skin, subcutaneous tissue, and the supporting structures of the abdomen are assessed together. Separation of the abdominal muscles, diastasis recti, can be corrected at the same time, which has significant functional importance for the body's support. A horizontal scar remains on the lower abdomen, and the area around it always has some numbness.

Liposuction and contouring

Liposuction may suit selected localized areas; it is not a weight-management treatment. Skin elasticity affects how even the result will be. Liposuction is often combined with a larger abdominal contour correction.

Scar and tissue assessment

Previous surgical scars, hernias, individual fat collections, and asymmetry are always considered as part of reconstructive planning, and are treated as well as possible at the same time.

The surgical plan is made individually according to your structures and goals. The result becomes visible once the last swelling has gone, which can take up to a year. Corrective body procedures cover a wide area, and therefore carry a slightly higher risk of wound problems, fluid collections, and blood clots. These are gone through with you carefully and taken into account in everything we do. Safety is always the primary starting point.
