Injections

Injectable treatments add volume, relax muscles, or firm selected areas. Suitability and expectations are assessed individually.

Overview

A considered, individual plan

Injectables may be an alternative or complement to surgery. Planning considers facial anatomy, skin condition, previous treatments, and whether a realistic, natural result is achievable.

Procedures and assessment

What the category may include

Dermal fillers

Fillers can be used to shape selected areas such as the lips, cheekbones or jawline. They can also be used to treat small irregularities after rhinoplasty. Injecting the lower eyelid margin carries a significant risk of vision loss, and I do not recommend it. The effect of fillers is usually temporary and duration varies. We now know that filler gel may not fully disappear from the face, and this should be taken into account when planning treatment.

Botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin can influence muscle movement and thereby, for example, the formation of wrinkles, brow height or the position of the mouth corners. It is also used to treat many difficult functional problems, such as migraine, night-time teeth grinding and excessive sweating. The effect comes on quickly but fades gradually over months.

Corticosteroid

Scars and post-operative swelling problems can sometimes be treated with a local corticosteroid injection. This is always planned individually. The risk is that the effect spreads to a wider area than intended, which can cause healthy fat tissue to sink into a depression. For this reason it is not a routine procedure, but always a treatment considered and planned separately.

The suitability of different treatments and the expected benefit are always assessed at a plastic surgeon's consultation. Injectable treatments do not replace surgery, and they are not suitable for everyone. Effects can vary from person to person. Consultation covers benefits, risks and possible side effects.
